Why Did Satyavati Leave Hastinapur?

Why Did Satyavati Leave Hastinapur? As we all know that Satyavati is a prime character in the stories of Mahabharata. She was the queen of Hastinapur and was married to the King of Hastinapur named Shantanu.

She was also the stepmother of Bhisma Pitamaha. She also gave birth to the son of King Shantanu named Vichitravirya.

But unfortunately, King Shantanu died shortly after his marriage with Satyavati and Vichitravirya was also very young at that time.

That’s why Satyavati had to take over the throne of Hastinapur. However, she did all the things right during her tenure as a queen with the help of his stepson Bhishma Pitamaha.

Dhritrashtra was made a new king of Hastinapur by Satyavati

Friends, we all know that Satyavati had made Pandu the king of Hastinapur, but he died due to the curse given by Kindam Rishi. However, after the death of Pandu, Satyavati took an important step and made Dhritarashtra the new king of Hastinapur.

Dhritarashtra was married to Gandhari, the princess of Gandhar. After this marriage, he was blessed with 100 sons and 1 daughter. Duryodhana was the eldest among all these brothers and sisters.

Dhritarashtra loved his eldest son Duryodhana most since his childhood and always wanted to make him the king of Hastinapur. The real truth was that He had never tried to restrain Duryodhana in any way.

Satyavati was worried for Duryodhana’s arrogant behaviour

Dhritarashtra had to bear the consequences of this mistake for the rest of his life. Duryodhana was very arrogant since childhood and he had considered himself the future king of Hastinapur. That is the reason why he had not respected anyone since childhood.

Duryodhana was very arrogant since childhood. In the beginning, Satyavati also considered Duryoshan as a child and forgave most of his mistakes. But as he grew older, his actions also increased. Out of which there were many mistakes that were not worth forgiving.

Satyavati had realized that Dhritarashtra had become blind in his son’s attachment and would never punish him for any of his mistakes. That’s why she decided to stop Duryodhana’s antics by making some plans against him.

This decision was taken by Satyavati also becomes one of the main reasons for the war of Mahabharata, because Pandavas only could get to know more about their father’s right after coming to Hastinapur for the first time. Had the Pandavas not come to Hastinapur, Duryodhana would have certainly become the king of Hastinapur.

Satyavati’s Decision to Leave Hastinapur

Satyavati was very happy because the Pandavas had returned to Hastinapur. She knew very well that Yudhishthira was the eldest of the Pandavas and Kauravas and that’s why he would be made the king of Hastinapur in the future.

Satyavati had felt something different in Yudhishthira’s nature. He always spoke the truth and respected elders. Along with this, he also took great care of his younger siblings. That’s why Satyavati decided to choose him as the future king.

But Satyavati now wanted to take a break from the active politics of Hastinapur. Also after the death of Pandu, there was no essence that remained in her life. That’s why She decided to spend the rest of her life in the forest and left the Hastinapur immediately after welcoming Kunti and Pandavas.
